Throughout his career, Ted exhibited an uncanny ability to synthesize artistic genres and mirror them to us through his intuitive Seussian filter. In this case, Surly Cat’s female ejector seems to have been passed through an Edvard Munch sieve with her eerie resemblance to The Scream. Shortly after Sotheby’s 2012 record-breaking $119.9 million sale of Munch’s 1895 pastel, respected London art adviser Michael Frahm commented, “Together with the Mona Lisa, it’s the most famous and recognized image in art history.”
